Friday Favorites: 5 Beauty Home Remedies Every Woman Should Know

As I’ve gotten older, I have started to really appreciate a more “natural” lifestyle. When people generally speak about “natural” they generally think about … “hair” and yes that’s a positive transition for multiple reasons. However, there are many other ways to incorporate “natural” in your everyday life. I personally am really big on home remedies, I always have been.My mother raised my brother and I on many holistic beliefs and healing, and I’ve carried these rituals into adulthood. Not only are these practices beneficial, but they are useful and economical. This week for my Friday Favorites post, I wanted to share my 5 favorite home remedies that I believe every woman could benefit from. (more…)

Letter From The Editor: Reflection

It’s March already! WOW. I don’t know about the rest of you, but it seems like the older you get, the faster time flies.

My birthday is the 27th of March. This year my birthday falls on Easter! HELLO to all my fellow Aries out there! lol

I think birthdays are always personal reflection periods. I am approaching 27 years of age, and I am filled with so much peace and joy, it’s almost hard for me to believe. I am happy with myself, and I content with the company I keep. I am proud of the young woman I have become and am STILL becoming. I know I have some personal goals that I have made for myself, and I am really looking forward to sharing all my future projects with you all.

I think I can officially say I am in my late 20’s… and as much as I thought I would cringe at the idea of being 3yrs away from “The Dirty 30” … I am actually at peace lol. Surprisingly.

As I get older I am entering another phase of my life, and I welcome this stage with much enthusiasm and optimism. I know there are some people in this world that were not able to see 27, so I am sincerely blessed.

My wish for all of you, is to take a chance to reflect on how far you have come as a person, and where you were a year ago. Reflection is good, and furthermore it is essential for our growth as individuals. Take inventory on your life and analyze your atmosphere. Are you happy ? What improvements or changes can you make moving forward? Remember… every day is a new opportunity for change and to create something better for your life. May happiness & success find all of you. Hello March !

May mercy, peace, and love be yours in abundance

Currently Reading…

I’m an avid reader. Always have been. I enjoy motivating and uplifting books. This year I’m launching a few projects and I’ve been reading some books that have really catapulted my dedication. I always found interest in seeing what other people enjoy reading, so I thought I would share with you guys what’s currently on my nightstand. Here are three books I’m currently obsessed with.

The Young Entrepreneur’s Guide is the bible of self-help. It not only tells the story of many young people who have made the journey to success and self-respect, but shows step-by-step how you can do the same.I’ve read some books before and they can be dry and hard to understand. Through stories of young entrepreneurs who have started businesses, this book illustrates how to turn hobbies, skills, and interests into profit-making ventures. Mariotti describes the characteristics of the successful entrepreneur and covers the nuts and bolts of getting a business up, running and successful.

If you aren’t familiar with business lingo, some books can end up being long reads. This book is completely different. It’s humorous and gives a well detailed breakdown of everything you need to know from; marketing, business plans, social media impact and investors. If you are thinking about starting any type of business this book is a must have.

The second book I wanted to discuss was #GIRLBOSS. LET US PRAISE SOPHIA AMORUSO!!! #GIRLBOSS is more than a book and Sophia Amoruso is more than a purveyor of (fine and fly) garments. #GIRLBOSS is a movement—a philosophy for making your work life as fun, fresh and raunchy as your personal adventures. Sophia encourages us to own the qualities we’ve previously been ashamed of and learn to embrace them in order to become the masters of our own destiny, financially independent and radically ourselves. I’m so in. I love it. It’s like a new rule book for ruling the world.

Last but not least, I wanted to address a book that feeds me spiritually. Reading about self help and business can get mentally exhausting. It’s always good to have a book around that taps into your spiritual foundation. I can appreciate a daily devotional. This book of 365 daily devotionals supports the time-honored conflict, “Why put it off?” When I was about 20years old, I had to go to court due to a domestic violence dispute I had with my boyfriend. My lawyer ended up giving me this book. During that time the book was like food for my soul. I needed it. I’m 25 years old and still read it EVERYDAY. I still need it. It’s good for clarity, and understanding. Each month carries a theme with it and the daily devotionals are centered around that theme.

Iyanla Vanzant knows how easy it is to stay stuck in “old sentiments, resentments, beliefs, decisions, agreements, judgments, and ideas that may have become habitual.” Everyday this book has a powerful message that you carry with you throughout the day. It’s definitely an all time favorite of mine.

Have any of you read any of these? Do you guys have any other suggestions as far as good books to read? I would love to hear about them.

10 Things Not to say at work

I love reading a great article to get you motivated and inspired for the week to come. Today I want to share something I read over at http://www.refinery29.com . The article is titled, “10 Things Not to Say at Work.”

I really appreciated this article because I noticed a few of the “things not to say at work” are or have been things I’ve said at work. The new year is right around the corner. Literally we have about 3 days . Every year calls for a better, improved you. Why not start with your career? As a woman, we should make our presence known when walking into a room and work on owning our thoughts, ideas, and feedback with confidence. Here are the seven phrases that stuck out to me the most.
