It’s May !
Right now, I’m working on a ton of things! I can’t wait to share them all with you. First off, I’m starting my own business and that has been an exhilarating experience in and of itself. I guess you can call it a “ Re-Launch.” I have had my own business for years, but I have been steady trying to get all my ducks in a row. Therefore the last few months, I have been working on getting my official logo, a header, business cards, marketing/advertising, and getting my official website together. I also have a few other things in store such as; an online store, podcast show, YouTube channel, and this show called “The Repost,” that I’m frequently featured in. I’ll keep you updated on all the specific dates, but just expect a lot of greatness coming soon. To say I’m excited would be an understatement.
Lately I’ve really been challenging myself to limit and eliminate dead weight/distractions in my life. I honestly want to say this has been the theme of my year. I went into this year with the mindset to rid myself of everything that was causing strife in my life. I dropped a lot of dead weight that I felt was keeping me from being awesome. Dead weight can be a list of things; it’s essentially anything that holds you down or back. Dead weight can be anything from a relationship that keeps stressing you out, to something you continue to put off. There’s too much beauty in the world, why waste it on things that aren’t adding to your life? Just like the great Erykah Badu said in ‘Bag Lady’:
“ One day all them bags gone get in your way, so… Pack Light.”
Got it ? Carrying around dead weight will eventually evolve into distractions. Distractions are things that keep you from doing the things that need to get done. For example: You have a relationship that is constantly stressing you out, therefore you spend most of your day in your feelings and over analyzing things. You find yourself wasting a lot of time thinking about things that aren’t helping you get ahead and better yourself. That’s dead weight now budding into a distraction. Drop the things that keep you from being happy and productive. You don’t need them. This is how I had to start looking at things; if you aren’t here to help me and keep me happy, there’s really no need for you in my life. When I started dropping my dead weight relationships, my life actually became substantially better.
Now, distractions don’t’ always come in human form, they come in the form of habits and things as well. There is so much to be done and in order to get the tasks checked off my list, I have to discipline myself and manage my time more efficiently. This includes time spent on extra-curricular activities, watching my favorite shows, getting consumed on my favorite stations, checking in on my favorite blogs, websites, and leisure time spent with friends. Oh, not to mention finding a balance between working out and eating healthy as much as I can. That’s been a new thing of mine, and it’s been a fabulous stress reliever. I get some of my best thinking done while I’m jogging.
I never even realized how much time I spent on social media until I deleted all the apps from my phone. Not too long ago, I took a two-week social media hiatus. Let’s just say it was necessary for my peace of mind. You should try it. It’s easy to be brainwashed and distracted by social media in today’s world. Everything from Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, YouTube, and Snapchat … it is all consuming our minds and energy, distracting (you see this is the key word right?) us from what we should really be doing. I also read this meme a few days ago and it said to only follow things that inspire you or emulate what you want to become. That actually makes a lot of sense. Why waste time looking at things that serve you no purpose or don’t add to your personal growth in the end? I loved the idea, and have been in the process of purging my social media of all foolishness. Inspirational accounts can stay. Accounts about petty drama or Hip-hop Wives… buh bye.
So I challenge you to do the same. Think about the dead weight in your life. What are some things that are keeping you from giving each and every day your full concentration, effort, and focus? What are some of the daily distractions in your life?
What do you spend time doing during your down moments? During your idle time, what do you do? Really think about it. Now, what can you get rid of? What can you improve? What can be brought down a notch? Why not try taking a hiatus? Clear your head and get organized, be more productive, and get focused. You’ll start to see a change and feel better in no time.
Finally, I would like to take a minute to thank all of you for following the evolution of my blog and personal journey, as well as welcome all my new readers! I sincerely appreciate it. Words will never be enough. It has been more than rewarding to share my story and myself with you and to help others get over challenging hurdles. I find that when I share personal stories they are received very well. Some of them have been my most popular and most shared posts to date. My heart is filled with gratitude. For that alone, I say thank you.
Love you guys & don’t forget to challenge yourself this month! Watch what happens next because of it. Have any stories/ideas to share? What are some of the distractions in your life ? Please feel free to comment or contact me. I LOVE hearing from y’all. xoxo
May mercy, peace and love be yours in abundance
